Picked up this useful tip from here to turn off image animations in FireFox. All you do is:

  1. Go to the about:config area. Literally type in the URL about:config.
  2. Search for the entry image.animation\_mode.
  3. Modify the value to none for no animations, or once to have animations run once. The default value is normal.
